Building a Superman mindset
Forty two years old. Calm always. Training his mind and body to find out exactly what he is made of.
Calm always.Simon
The man behind the cape
Simon writes about the inner work. The quiet, daily kind that nobody sees but that changes everything.
He wasn't always calm. Years ago he was a big man working with the public, and one customer abused him to his face on a regular basis. It hurt at first. Then Simon made a decision that shaped everything after it. He would treat the abuse as practice. Practice at staying calm, at not taking things personally, at hearing it as noise.
That idea grew into a daily habit of silence, meditation and journalling, and into a way of talking to himself that helps rather than harms. Now he shares what he learns in his newsletter, The Mind of Simon, one honest post at a time.
His latest chapter is his biggest yet. He has signed up for Ironman Lanzarote 2027. Not to prove anything to anyone else. To prove it to himself.
The journey so far
Every hero has an origin story. Simon's didn't start with superpowers. It started with a choice to stay calm.

1
The starting point
A big man in a tough job
Taking regular abuse from a customer, and letting his size define him at the time. He says that part is a story for another day.
-
2
The turning point
Calm always
He chose to see the abuse as a training ground. Stay calm. Don't take it personally. It's only noise. The motto stuck and it still guides him.

Going inward
Learning to sit in silence
A line from the philosopher Blaise Pascal got him exploring meditation. Twenty minutes of breathing, then writing down whatever came up. He kept at it for a couple of years.

4
The quiet shift
Less, not more
One day he noticed he was calmer, slower to anger and in charge of his own mind. Meditation hadn't added to his life. It had taken things away.

5
Rewiring the voice
Helpful self talk
He began making his own guided meditations with binaural beats, and starting each morning by telling himself he feels incredible. Out loud. Again and again.
-
6
Sharing it
The Mind of Simon
He started writing it all down for others. Short, honest posts on calm, connection, excuses and being instead of doing.

June 2026
Signing up for Ironman
He clicked confirm on Ironman Lanzarote 2027 and started filming his training for YouTube. Every session, every setback, the truth of it.

May 2027
Race day in Lanzarote
A 3.8 km swim, 180 km on the bike, then a full marathon in the heat. The real goal is an iron mindset that lasts long after the finish line.
Ironman Lanzarote 2027
“The real race happens entirely between my ears.”
Simon calls it an awakening of potential, not a midlife crisis. He is standing at the base of the mountain, and every training session between now and May 2027 is a step toward the top. Some days will feel manageable. Some won't. He has promised to write about both honestly.
Today is a great day to have a great day
